So, I’ve been genuinely receiving a few emails recently via my MeetUp group, & also my website. Mainly New Zealand sellers wanting tax information.
There is honestly not one 100% solid answer to this (that I know of). I know Sellers here in NZ that have a NZ Ltd company, and they pay their taxes here, on the other hand I also know Sellers here who actually have a Company & bank accounts in the country that they’re selling in. For example, some Sellers who sell in the US, they open a US company, US bank account, and they pay their taxes there.
I personally, have a NZ Ltd company and my tax works are done in New Zealand.
But then again, most of my Amazon work is consulting work – where my Clients pay me (not Amazon) directly in my Paypal or NZ bank account. So, I do have slightly different tax path, if you will. The best thing to do in my opinion, is to hire an Accountant to give you tailored advice for you.
As I type this, I recall having a conversation with a fellow NZ Seller about paying state taxes in the US. With Donald Trump you never know, right? Lol So yes, the best thing to do maybe is to talk to an Accountant.
Or, bootstrap it for now:
- Open a NZ Ltd company
- Get a company number
- Open company bank account
- Sign up for Seller Central as a NZ business
- And, start selling!
Otherwise, it’s easy to get caught up in this tax business and you never end up actually doing anything. Start selling & pay income taxes here. Hope this helps. I’ll update this post if any more info comes my way! Do you have tax suggestions for Amazon Sellers in New Zealand? Let us know below!
